Guidelines and such

I truly can not believe how this started off as such a small event and thanks to the support and help from all of you- it is turning into and coming together to be a major success.
I am writing this message to first of all thank every single one of you who is coming, who has flyered, who has spread the word- changed your status...anything.

Secondly: some issues people have asked me about- such as parking- marta- signs etc...here are some guidelines. PLEASE READ

If you are planning on driving, there is parking available around the area. Visitors in automobiles may park in state parking lots, which charge a nominal fee. Lots which are available for public parking include: the Archives parking lot on Capitol Avenue, the Steve Polk Plaza parking lot and the public lot at Underground Atlanta located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. There are also additional private parking lots surrounding the capitol building and on side streets. Keep in mind we are expecting large crowds and these will fill up fast, so MARTA is the best option.

MARTA exits located nearest the Capitol are the Georgia State Station (directly across from the Capitol in the Sloppy Floyd/Twin Towers complex) or the Five Points station (two blocks west of the Capitol at Underground Atlanta).

As we mentioned, we are encouraging everyone to bring signs with positive messages. We are reminding everyone to avoid phrases or images that attack any particular group. Yes, our rights have been taken away, but fighting hate with hate will get us no where. This is a peaceful protest to show our unity and to raise our voices for equality.

What to expect at the event:

We encourage everyone to bring signs, banners, and wear supporting T-shirts. You are welcome to bring your family, friends, children and allies. There will be adequate police coverage on sight and we have also laid plans for the possibility of counter-protesters (and arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of all participants).

According to GA regulations, signs must be hand held and not attached to any poles (or anything that could reasonably be defined as a weapon).

We have several speakers lined up to address those in attendance

SOME SIGN IDEAS:
Real Family Values value every family
Honk if You Support Equality
Thanks for Supporting Equality
We WILL Have Marriage Equality
Second Class No More
Love is All You Need
Striaight Christian for Gay Rights
Love, not H8 (or hate)
Out for xx Years and STILL FIGHTING for The Right to Love Whom I Choose!

finally- it looks like it may rain until about 10 or 11...but dont let that discourage you- the event will go on regardless of weather...and should have stopped raining by start time.

finally if anything is updated last minute tomorrow i will send out one final email- sorry for the mass amounts. wanted to make sure everyone was given sign ideas, guidelines, parking info etc.
Lastly- if you see me at the rally be sure to come say hey! its been a pleasure talking to all of you. see you sat! and spread the word tomorrow

hand to friends, family, co-workers, students, hang up anywhere. lets flyer this city down!!
:D

disregard the previous post

after messaging all of you the plans to combine I have received and overwhelming amount of people who disagree with the decision.
For that reason-
I think we should endorse both events.
I will be attending both and hope everyone else will..

1:30- meet outside the state capital for a rally to show Shirley Franklin and the rest of Atlanta that we still matter, as well as to stand in UNISON with every other city in this nation that is holding their events at 1:30 pm on that day.
bring signs, flags, make shirts etc be ready to be loud

we will then walk from the capital (you can drive if you want, but walking will make more of an impact..) to 10th and piedmont, where we may have spare time to grab coffee etc. Then join the other group at 5pm

5pm- there will be a candle light vigil in the heart of midtown. at 10th and Piedmont
bring candles and signs.

please plan on attending both. if both is not an option please attend one of the events. We are Souths Gay Mecca. We MUST stand together with the nation, and together in unison as a local city.

So THIS EVENT IS CONTINUING AND JOINING WITH THE 5PM EVENT AFTERWARDS.
thank you all
SORRY FOR ALL THE CONFUSIONS.
and please attend both
see you saturday

Atlanta

This is going to be the official website for Atlanta's march for Equality, happening this Saturday November 15th, 2008.
Atlanta will be one of many major cities holding rallies, and marches to show our opposition to the passing of proposition 8 in California, as well as demand marriage equality.
America saw a great day when the first minority was elected president this past Tuesday, but the LGBT community received devastating news that many amendments and propositions had passed which further the community as a second class community.
The purpose of these marches on Saturday is to send an echoing message across the nation that we are not second class citizens, and we will not stand for inequality.
The time is now- if we remain silent, then the people who oppose equality come out victorious.

The rally is for anyone: Gay, Bi, Straight, Lesbian, Transgendered, Black, White, Asian etc. Anyone who wants to stand up to this government and say we wont be silenced!

The rally will begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday November 15th
it is located at City Hall downtown
(68 Mitchell Street
Atlanta, Ga 30303)

we will then march together to the state capital let our voices be heard- and has yet to be determined, but possibly march to midtown ending there with a lunch somewhere...many speakers have been contacted, and organizations as well.
Flyers will be going out and around the city tomorrow, and sovo.com has featured the rally

tell everyone you know! please check this site often as this is where official times and changes will be posted!
if on facebook you can stay current in the facebook group
